Summer's Over

Summer is officially over in our home...school has begun.

It has been an amazing yet challenging Summer.
A hard working farmer is the only one who receives a harvest, right?

I really do try when it comes to having a garden, but my garden gives the evidence that I am NOT a gardener  only a "wanna-be".  Hmmmm... kinda sounds spiritual.  We need to ask ourselves, "Am I a Christ follower or a wanna be?"

I'm a "Wanna-Be Gardner"

Between being gone a lot of the Summer, and keeping busy with other things, my garden is getting quite over run with weeds.  Every Summer I tell myself, "next year will be better".

It's no fun to pull weeds, prune back plants, find bugs eating and killing your produce and sweating in the sun only for a few veges.

But isn't that how it is in our Spiritual life?  It's hard work!  Yes, Jesus' load is light.  He gave us His FREE GIFT of salvation!

"Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life." Romans 5:18

Can't get any lighter and easier than FREE!

But if we don't keep on top of our relationship with Christ through daily spiritual discipline, we end up being run over by our old-self and full of the world's "junk".  WEEDS!

"He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful." Matthew 13:22

God wants to produce a fruitful harvest in our life:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."  Galatians 5:22-23
We must tend to our spiritual garden daily.

Check out the sweet love song the Lord gave me for my "End of Summer 2013" gift, written and sung by JJ Heller.

Funny thing...it's called Boat Song.

Guess where our family spent most of our Summer...

...on a boat.

Praising God for a blessed Summer!
Closer to seeing our Savior face to face!  :)
